Church History

Most likely you are curious to know what Brooksville Christian Church is all about.  Who are we?  What do we believe?  How are we structured?  These are important questions and we’ll attempt to answer a few of them for you…

Brooksville Christian church is a non-denominational Christian Church.  We put Jesus Christ at the center of all we do.  Our goal is not to help you become “religious” but rather to build a “relationship” with God.  We have no creeds and we are not affiliated with any denomination…we believe this to be in alignment with the New Testament model of how churches were created and sustained.

We believe the most important question that all of us need to answer is what do I have to do to be in a right relationship with God…or more specifically, what do I have to do to become a Christian.  In keeping with Scripture, we teach the following biblical requirements for salvation:

-          You must be taught (“hear”)…

o   “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?” – Romans 10:14

-          You must have faith (“believe”)…

o   “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.” – Mark 16:16

-          You must have a change of lifestyle (“repent”)…

o   “Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.” – Matthew 3:8

-          You must proclaim a relationship with Christ (“confess”)…

o   “For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” – Romans 10:10

-          You must be cleansed of sin (“baptism”)…

o   “Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” – Acts 2:38

-          You must have a life of commitment to Christ (“discipleship”)…

o   “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…” – Matthew 28:19

We are not a “charismatic” church, nor are we considered a “prophesying” church.  We are conservative in nature and teach that faith is a matter of both intellect and emotion, finding a healthy balance between the two.  If you are not a regular church attendee we do not want you to feel “intimidated” by your surroundings.  A Christian is a life-long learner, so you’ll find yourself surrounded by people at all phases of growth.

Our structure is a simple one.  The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of the church.  God has placed elders in the church to be the spiritual overseers and “shepherds” of the congregation.  Our deacons are involved in various servant tasks (building and grounds ministries).  Our ministers help people fulfill the church’s mission statement through preaching and outreach.  Our ministry team leaders work with their respective team members to involve people in specific ministries of service.  And our teachers play a vital role in educating people in Scripture.
